Aubrey Plaza has had many iconic roles. You may have enjoyed her work in Parks and Recreation, Ingrid Goes West, Emily the Criminal, Agatha All Along and The White Lotus. Some of our personal favorites are her scene stealing moments in Funny People and Scott Pilgrim vs. The World. But in this particular moment, we want to focus on Aubrey’s role as one of the WNBA’s most famous fans, unofficial ambassador of the league, and all around baller.

Her love of basketball is well documented both on and off the court. When faced with the possibility of not being able to compete in the game she loves so much, Plaza helped start a women’s recreational basketball league in Los Angeles sometime in the fall of 2014, as well as her own team the Pistol Shrimps, to compete in said league.

When questioned about how serious the league was and her level of commitment to her team, she once famously said in an interview on The Tonight Show, (skip to 2:45) “Look Jimmy, we love to ball and we ball hard. No haters allowed. You’re either with us or against us. And may god help you if you’re against us because we will dunk on your ass so hard.”

Things took a Lebron-esque turn for Plaza’s basketball career the following season, when after suffering an ACL injury, she decided to trade herself to an opposing team, the Spice Squirrels, as she explained in a sit down with the incomparable Kenny Mayne on ESPN. Better still, a documentary was released in 2016 that follows the Pistol Shrimps’ 2015 season and the circumstances that led to Plaza’s “Choice” to join the Spice Squirrels.

It stands to reason that Aubrey Plaza has balled out so hard on her own that she became friends with professional ballers in the WNBA. Over the last several years, Aubrey’s support of, and association with, the WNBA has become the stuff of legend. For the neophytes, here’s a great primer on all things Aubrey Plaza and the WNBA.

Speaking of the WNBA, their 2024 season was quite possibly its best season to date across any number of metrics by which one might try to measure the greatness of a professional sports league. And it was all because of the fans. The fans that went to the games. The fans that watched the games from home. The fans that bought the jerseys and women’s signature athlete basketball sneakers. The new fans. The OG fans. The female fans. The male fans. It’s always about the fans. And we couldn’t think of a better way to honor the importance of the fan than to immortalize WNBA famous fan, Aubrey Plaza with a ghost of her own in our WNBA 2024 Blind Box collection.

During the 2024 WNBA All-Star weekend in Phoenix, Plaza was often seen sitting courtside with Sue Bird and Megan Rapinoe, and chatting it up with many other players and celebs. After reportedly tearing her ACL (our team could not verify if it was the same exact ACL she tore in her Pistol Shrimp days) in what was rumored to be a raucous game of knockout, she was forced to wear a medical boot and get around on crutches, as seen here:

We racked our collective brains and couldn’t think of a better Aubrey Plaza x WNBA moment to pay homage to than this iconic fit. So without further ado, we’re excited to reveal all of the Aubrey Plaza ghosts included in our WNBA 2024 Blind Box Collection.

In an attempt to stay as true as possible to her courtside look, Aubrey’s base ghost will feature her backwards orange snapback, sunglasses, leg brace, and of course, her crutches.

Aubrey Plaza, Base

These are the four Aubrey Plaza parallels included in the set:

The Victory chase ghost has the same outfit and hat as the base ghost with the only difference being the removal of her sunglasses. The Gold, Chrome, and Fire parallels have their sunglasses on and respectively colored metallic crowns. As we mentioned in THIS blog post about the various player parallels and inserts in the collection, Aubrey does not have the Bet On Women parallel due to the previously noted concerns about our inability to top her purple look from the 2014 Golden Globes. The odds of pulling each Aubrey Plaza parallel are consistent with the other 15 players in the collection: Victory is 1 in every 1.5 cases; Gold is 1 in every 7 cases; Chrome 1 in every 14 cases; Fire is 1 in every 66 cases. Happy Aubrey Plaza ghost hunting.
